Why Join SuperCoop?

Do you believe everyone should have access to healthy, sustainable food? Are you looking for a community of like-minded Berliners that work together to make this dream a reality?

Be a part of Berlin’s first cooperative supermarket! Here we are not only customers. We own and run SuperCoop together too!

Thanks to our 2021 crowdfunding campaign we became a community of over 500 members! This allowed us to then take out a loan, sign the lease for a space at Osram-Höfe, and set up our first store. We have now been in operation since September 2021, and our community continues to grow (1,000 and counting!)

On May 19, 2022 we re-opened our newly renovated supermarket with a more diverse product assortment, office space, children’s corner, food processing room (i.e. freshly cut cheese!) and of course space for new ideas too!

If you prefer to come meet us first, drop by and say hello. We’re in Wedding at Oudenarder Straße 16, 13347 Berlin. The main entrance is located on Seestr., directly across the street from the Osram Höfe tram station. The supermarket is also accessible via the courtyard of Osram Höfe (building D03) with a ramp suited for wheelchairs.

Opening hours:

  • Monday – Saturday from 9 AM – 8 PM

How Do I Join?

1. Become a member

Please sign up for a Welcome Session so that you can learn how the coop works in greater detail before committing to become a member of SuperCoop.

Still have questions? Scroll down for more information or visit our FAQ!

2. work 3 hours, every 4 weeks

All members contribute three hours every four weeks (of course with exceptions for special circumstances).

You decide when and what kind of work you do (e.g. your working group). This way, we keep prices affordable, get to know each other and take responsibility for our shop together!

3. Get even more involved!

As co-owners we all have the option of attending the Plenum meeting, where we all can vote on important topics at SuperCoop. We each have 1 vote (regardless of how many shares you own), and we all can raise topics to discuss such as deciding what to do with the money we make.

Some working groups meet more than 3 hours/4 weeks to take care of areas like accounting, and IT. Only a small team is employed full time, the rest is done by volunteer members!

I cannot afford to pay 100 euros for a share. How can I become a member?

Although cooperative law requires us to make all shares the same price, we are working to find a solution for a solidarity fee together with members and legal support.

You can also pay for your share by installments over a period of 2 years. You do not need an extra registration form. Simply check the box for paying by installments (Ratenzahlung). If you are able to indicate how much you plan to pay and when this helps us greatly with our financial planning. However, we understand if this is not possible.

Can I support without becoming an active member?

Yes, you also have the option of becoming an investing member, or as we like to call them, supporting members! Simply check the box for “investierendes Mitglied” when signing your registration form. Please note that supporting (investing) members are not required to work, and therefore may not shop or vote either. See our bylaws for more information.

What happens if I want to end my membership?

If you no longer wish to be an active member, you could become an investing member instead (meaning you no longer work, shop or vote).

However, if you wish to end your membership completely we will return your share(s). According to our bylaws, there is a 3 year period of notice for ending your membership. We introduced this rule because it was one of the bank’s prerequisites for obtaining a loan to finance the supermarket and thus to secure equity from the members in the start-up phase. A stable number of members is crucial for successful implementation, especially at the beginning of the project.

It is possible to transfer your share to another member ! This means that an existing member or a new member can take over your share if you want to leave earlier. So you can also leave before the three-year notice period and get your share back.
