I can’t afford to buy a share at 100 Euros. Can I still join?

Of course! You can either choose to pay off the share in small installments over a period of 2 years or receive a share from another member as a donation by participating in our Soli-Anteil Program. This is completely anonymous and we do not ask for proof of your current financial situation. If you want to make use of the Soli-Anteil Program, just send an email to soli@supercoop.de

How do I join SuperCoop?

You can do so in three simple steps: Join a Welcome Session, complete the registration form and buy a share worth 100 Euros. We also charge a one-off 10 Euro admin fee, called the entrance fee. Boom! You are now an active member. Click here to find out more.

I can’t make it to my shift. What should I do?

Please try to find a stand-in first. In our online shift system Tapir, you can mark your shift as looking for a stand-in up to 2 days in advance. If another member takes your shift, you are excused. Please note: You need to make up for your missed shift! Find out what happens if you miss a shift. It’s less than two days before your shift and you know you can’t make it? What is a cooperative?

A cooperative is made up of a group of people and operates for the benefit of its owners according to common principles. They can join forces to reach a specific goal, for example: starting a supermarket! Every member has to buy a share in the cooperative, making them co-owner with the others. As co-owner, they can get involved, be part of the decision-making process, and contribute their own ideas!

What happens if I decide to end my membership?

To terminate your membership, please send an email to the Member Office: mitglied@supercoop.de. The notice period is three years, at which point you will also get your share of 100 Euros back. To speed up the process, you can also transfer your share to another member, meaning a new or existing member buys it from you.

Do you also offer partnerships with other companies?

Yes! We have already established several partnerships with other companies. Depending on the company’s size and business interests, the partnership can be tailored to your specific needs. The best thing to do is contact us directly so we can discuss the details: contact@supercoop.de.

How do you make sure that everyone does their fair share?

To keep operations running smoothly, we require all active members to chip in. When you show up to your shift, you sign an attendance sheet confirming that you’ve completed the mandatory three hours. This shift will then be credited to your online shift management account.
Click here to find out more about your online time account.

How do flying shifts work?

Flying members do not do regular shifts, but rather pick the slots where most help is needed. In total, they are required to do 13 shifts per year. Every 4 weeks, we deduct one shift from your online account in Tapir. In Tapir, you also get an overview of which team needs your help the most.

How can I add funds to my member card?

You can do this at the checkout counter. The benefit: We have funds to buy more produce and save on transaction costs.

How do I become an investing member?

Simply complete this form, sign it and email it back to us at mitglied@supercoop.de. Please note that we cannot accept digital signatures for legal reasons, meaning the document must be printed and signed. You can also fill out the form in store during opening hours.

What is the member card and how do I get one?

The member card is a barcode that we store in your online Tapir account. To generate this code, simply give your consent in your account.
The member card helps us better understand the shopping habits of our members. By scanning your barcode at the checkout, we gather some basic info about your shop for better forecasting and easier planning. Don’t worry though: You are given full anonymity as it is a collective data pool. Data collection is not mandatory and you can opt out any time. You can also add funds to your member card to spend on your next shop.

Is there a monthly membership fee?

No, there are no monthly fees. All you need to do is buy a share in SuperCoop when you join. A share is worth 100 Euros. We also charge a one-time admin fee of 10 Euros. We call this the entrance fee. As long as you are an active member, you can shop at SuperCoop.

What happens if I miss my shift?

If you miss your shift without giving notice, you are required to take on two extra shifts to make up for it. We don’t do this to punish you, but rather to give members an incentive to work the shifts they sign up for, and our model is based on a principle of compensation. If you feel like you can’t manage the workload, we also have a solidarity shift system.

How do I buy more shares?

To buy more shares, please complete this form and send it to mitglied@supercoop.de. Remember to print it as we cannot accept digital signatures. You can also complete the form in store during opening hours.

I am still not sure if I should join. Can I drop in and check out the supermarket first?

Absolutely! Drop by for a one-time test shop or come to one of our Open Days when non-members can shop at SuperCoop. You are always welcome to join a Welcome Session to learn more and ask any questions you may have.

Are only members allowed to shop at SuperCoop?

Yes and no. All active members can choose two additional persons to shop at SuperCoop. These persons must be registered on their Tapir account. To register a co-shopper, send us an email at mitglied@supercoop.de. Minors who belong to active members’ households can also shop at SuperCoop. Those who are interested in joining have the option to do one test shop. On top, we organize an Open Day on the first Saturday of every month where non-members are welcome to shop.

I have a physical disability. How can I contribute?

Our goal is to create a space that is inclusive and welcoming for everyone. If you want to get involved but can't do certain tasks, don’t worry - drop by for a chat or send an email to contact@supercoop.de. We will do our best to make it work! There is also always the option of requesting an exemption.

Where can I find the registration form?

We hand out registration forms at the end of every Welcome Session. If you joined an in-person session at SuperCoop, you can fill in the form right there and then. If you attended an online session, we will email it to you. All you have to do is print it out and hand it back to us at the store. Posting it is fine, too.

What is a share?

In a cooperative, every member owns at least one share, making them both a co-owner and decision-maker in the co-op. At SuperCoop, we do the same. A share in the co-op is worth 100 Euros and each new member buys at least one share. When you do, you become co-owner of SuperCoop. This means you are part of the cooperative and can get involved, be part of the decision-making process and also contribute your own ideas! You are also welcome to buy more shares to support us financially.

How does the shift management system work?

We have an online shift management system called Tapir. When you work a three-hour shift, it is credited to your account in Tapir. Similarly, if you miss a shift, it is deducted from your account. You should aim to have your online account in balance or in credit. If your account shows too many negative shifts, you can’t shop at the supermarket until you make up for those missed shifts.
Click here to find out more about working at SuperCoop.

What is the partner model for shift sharing?

As an active member, you can appoint one extra person who can take over your shifts. This person is be your shift partner. Only active members with a paused account or investing members can be appointed as shift partners. You can only appoint one other person. To do so, send an email to mitglied@supercoop.de.

Help! I can’t make it to my shift and it’s in less than 2 days.

Don’t worry – just give us a heads up and provide a valid reason, which could be illness or emergency. No proof is needed. Just reach out to the Member Office as soon as you can. Please note you will still need to make up for your missed shift.
If it’s more than 2 days till your shift and you already know you won’t make it, click here to find out what you can do.

I am a single parent and do not have much free time. Can I still join?

Of course you can! Single parents with kids under 7 are exempt from working in the shop. Those whose kids are between 7 and 12 years old are only required to work seven instead of 13 shifts per year. Just ask for an exemption at the Member Office. Side note: Our supermarket has a kid’s corner with books and toys (unfortunately not, as long as we’re still in the more temporary Mini-SuperCoop) and there is a changing table for babies in the bathrooms.

What is a solidarity shift?

Members who have a bit more time to spare can support those who do not by giving away completed shifts. Members can add completed shifts to a solidarity pool for other members to take. This means their Tapir account will not go into the red and they can continue to shop. You do not need to justify why you want to bank a solidarity shift in your account, and you can take up to 2 solidarity shifts per year.

I am unable to work for a specific reason. Can I still join and shop at SuperCoop?

Absolutely! You can be an active member but be exempt from work. You need a special permission from the Member Office for this. Exemptions are granted for health reasons or to anyone over the age of 70. We also grant exemptions to single parents or those on parental leave.

What is a subordinate loan and how can I arrange it?

By concluding a subordinate loan agreement with SuperCoop, you essentially lend us money, giving us more agency and financial stability. A loan starts at 500 Euros. To learn more about your options and the loan conditions, send us an email: contact@supercoop.de.

As a member, you have a real say and can even request your favorite products!

Please note: While we are busy working on opening our big new store on Müllerstraße, you can find us in a slightly smaller space with a cozier selection on Amsterdamer Straße. Once we open our big store on Müllerstraße, our beloved, massive cheese selection will be back, too!

Can I decide for myself when to work my three-hour shift?

Of course! You can pick the time and day that suits you best. There are two shift options: regular or flying. In a regular shift, you work at the same time and with the same team every month.
